Abstract Artist b. l. bickford
The placing of a design and color on wet or dry paper is so enjoyable, and a painting takes form. A painting that is bursting with color, or with a subtle effect that creates a mood: warm, cool, happy, thought provoking, always awakens a response in me.
Having painted, designed, and created art all of my life, I find the challenge of watercolor and water-based paints, liquid acrylics, the most interesting to use. I love the mixing, the dripping, the brush strokes, and usually the surprises that watermedia creates. It really stirs the imagination.
A graduate of Syracuse University in Fine Arts Concentration, I have had courses in copperplate engraving, lithography, oils, and many workshops in watercolor and acrylics with several nationally known artists, including John Salminen, Gerald Brommer, and most recently with Katherine Chang Liu for four years including 2017. For several years I designed needlepoint. My hand painted ties were in stores across the country, in Abercrombie & Fitch in New York and in their catalog for a few years in the '70s. My work has been exhibited in many locations locally, in New York State and in National and International exhibits, and in many group exhibitions in libraries in Fayetteville, Manlius, Cazenovia, and Hospice, The Tech Gardens, Crouse Internists, and AHA group. I have enjoyed teaching locally and have had an abstract workshop at VIEW Museum in Old Forge, NY in 2014 an 2015. I am always learning.
